Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation. This procedure does not use any suction, abrasive crystals, or brushes. A sterile, surgical blade is stroked along the skin to remove unwanted dead skin cells and excess hair. Dermaplaning leaves you with a soft, smooth sensation making it easier for application of make-up and your favorite skin care products. Due to the contours of the face, certain areas of the face (eyelids and nose) are not treatable using this method.
It is not uncommon to have redness for 2-3 hours after the treatment. Minor abrasions may appear a few days after the treatment. If you do another treatment such as a chemical peel following your dermaplaning, your skin may have more irritation, mild discomfort, or tenderness. It is important to use a SPF 30 or greater sunscreen following treatment.
